↬ summary
Tuva is a 12 year old girl who has decided to start a journal as she starts the seventh grade. She has goals for this big year (last before a big grade/school change). However, in the true fashion of time and kids being kids, things change over the summer, throwing a huge curveball on her plans. Will she get to cross off the goals in her journal or will seventh grade be the worse year ever?
↬ thoughts
This was a super cute read. The style in which it is written, like a journal/diary, was so fun, especially now that I am also into journaling. The style, color, etc., all of is cheff kiss!! Creative and different.
The characters felt very realistic to me. They remind me a bit of the kids I work with, so to me, that’s why it felt realistic. All come back from summer different, dating suddenly matters when it didn’t before, and the drama, oh boy, the drama. This really is how kids are today.
The queer aspect was a lot more chill than I expected and I really liked it. Tuva just being concerned about still being to like BTS is such a mood!
I related to growing up fast. Reminded me of moving in seventh grade, and everyone was too grown and mature. I was struggling between being a kid and being mature too, the feeling of being left behind or wanting to also fit in.
I was a bit angry at Bao for outing Tuva like that. And I really wish that had gone in a different direction because to me it felt like a pretty big deal, but maybe in a kid’s world this solution felt better? I don’t know, this still gives me mixed feelings.
I did loveeeeeeed the ending so much. It felt simple and yet so nice and realistic.
I do recommend this book; it was way more than I expected.
— much love, anto
